Ondoy's wrath made an island out of Metro Manila

Sept. 26, 2009 - Another date added to the list of historical calamities and disasters. Metro Manila along with other areas in Central Luzon was submerged in flood after non-stop rains thats equivalent of a month-long rain. Death toll already reached 200 and is still counting.

Adding up the catastrophic rains is the rapid spread of water released from water dams. Although I think its a smart move rather than risk the dams exploding until it cannot hold the water anymore, the people still deserve to be warned that heavy flow of water not only from the rain should be expected. Again, prevention is better than cure.

This is the first time that I saw the streets where I grew up became an extension of the Pasig River. water lilies and trash swims along with my feet as I walk the path towards our home that was also submerged in knee-deep dirty water.

Ondoy really gave the Filipinos an experience thats really hard to forget. Many became homeless and some even lost their lives. a very catastrophic event that I hope left us some of the most important lessons in life. - Never to take for granted our Mother Nature. :(
